Fairs provide an important tool in the education of 4-H youth. Though to the "untrained eye", it may be more of a competition than an educational forum, it is really the latter. In most cases, youth projects are judged against a standard for their age and experience rather than against each other. This is why most kids earn ribbons and that there are many blue, red and white ribbons awarded. 4-H members also learn public speaking skills by touring the public through the fair barns and giving presentations before judges on their projects. Judges always discuss with participants how they can improve their project for the next year. Going to the fair is a true educational experience.
County FairThe County Fair is called the Evergreen State Fair and is rated as one of the top 25 fairs in the nation. Two thousand 4-H members show at the fair.
