YOUTH/4-H PROGRAMS

Plant Science

4-H Flower Display

Learn how to grow vegetables, flowers and other plants at Plant Science program workshops. Display your accomplishments at local fairs. More than 100 youth are enrolled in the various plant science projects.

In the Plant and Soil Science Project you might:
  • Grow a salad garden in a container
  • Sow wildflowers along a roadside
  • Experiment with fertilizers
  • Raise fresh vegetables for your family and local food bank
  • Do trials of non-chemical ways to control plant eating bugs and slugs
  • Make a flower press
  • Visit interesting gardens in the area

Through countywide workshops and field trips you'll have the opportunity to learn:
  • How different herbs taste
  • What plants attract butterflies and plants to gardens
  • Which bugs are considered "good" for your garden
  • How to use red worms to compost food wastes
  • When and what to plant
  • Native plants and how Native Americans used them
For more information, call or E-mail the Extension office. The phone number is (425)357-6044 or send an E-mail to Marilyn Anderson.
