Helping You Put Knowledge To Work
WSU Food $ense
(WSU nutrition programs in Snohomish County)
The Extension Family
and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) helps limited income
families with young children learn how to budget their food dollars,
make nutritious low-cost meals, and help kids develop good eating
habits. Participants also find out how to keep their food safe to
eat. Nutrition Education Assistants meet with small groups, usually
in a participant’s home or agency, to conduct weekly sessions. Each
participant receives a comprehensive workbook packed full of nutrition
information, healthy-eating ideas and easy, low-cost, nutritious recipes.
Groups usually choose to cover five or six of the eleven chapters.
Expectant moms use a different workbook to address their special needs
and help them learn how to feed their baby during the first years.

The Food Stamp Nutrition
Education Program (FSNEP) is a hands-on, culturally sensitive
nutrition education program available to Washington Basic Foods (food
stamp) recipients and schools where 50% or more of their students
receive free or reduced lunches. This nutrition education program
reaches youth, adults and seniors in Snohomish County and the Tulalip
community with information which will help them practice healthy eating
habits and be more physically active.

Senior Nutrition
helps limited-income seniors budget their food dollars, offers nutrition
and food safety information and provides recipes scaled down for one
or two servings that are nutritious, easy and low cost. This program
offers information in a fun Bingo game format with a different Bingo
game for each topic. Gourps of 5-10 older adults meet once a week
for four sessions, culminating in a grocery store tour with transportation
provided. Seniors enjoy sampling the foods provided in the sessions.
